Whatever

Missed the early briefing for Music Technology! I totally forgot about it. So I had to do it with the second years. It was pretty cool though. The aural test went well I think.

Yesterday was my first day at uni, albeit just an Orientation day (and week). Woke up early and timed myself with the bus so that I would be there around 45 minutes - 1 hour earlier than the opening. Un/Fortunately I got on the O-Bahn bus, the bus that travels through a track, and I was taken to the city in less than half an hour and therefore I was there 1.5 hours earlier than schedule. So I just roamed around the place for a bit.

The VC spoke to us in the Bonython's Hall at 9:30am, the usual stuff and the CEO of Rising Sun Pictures (apparent a graduate of Adelaide University) spoke too. For those who doesn't know, Rising Sun Pictures did the special effects of many Hollywood movies like Harry Potter, The Seeker, Lord of the Rings, the Last Samurai, this and that. I drank a cup of cappuccino and didn't go to the toilet, so I was suffering while listening to the speeches and presentations.

Next was the Con's greeting. It was in the Elder Hall.. This and that spoke and they performed. A Hornist played R. Strauss's Horn concerto, just the first movement, but it ended in the dominant, so it might even be just the exposition. The a Jazz trio played two similar jazz pieces, the ones with just walking bass throughout and the pianist plays the melody/chords.

Then, off to meet my composition teacher. Mr. Charles Bodman-Rae, very British. I met 3 other composition students, Joshua, Andrew and Lauren. After a brief briefing (we were told to meet him at 2 tomorrow and bring our compositions), we left. I was just walking with Andrew when we met Johanna. Andrew is born and raised in Aussie but he is a British, while Johanna is a K.K. Malaysian, with a scholarship to do Piano degree!

Anyway we talked and talked, they are really friendly. After that we went to the MUSCORE briefing and then we left. I then went to the clubs area. I want to join the Adelaide University Gliding Club! Like fly man! Fly! It would be sooo awesome! After that I went to CCM's corner (Christian Church Movement) where Allan and the rest are there packing up already (I went late). They made me carry a cutter and the poster, and they left me there, thinking that I was going with Vivian (whom thought that I was going with them). So I had to go back with a bus. But it's good too, coz when I waited for them for a bit, I saw the Choir Club, and I joined it while searching aimlessly for them. First meeting today at 5:30pm.

Nothing much happens after than other than sleep, chat, eat, msn, etc..

I took some photos today (like 3 photos?) and I'll post two of them below =P

Elder Hall

Rundle Mall

Well, Elder Conservatorium is the Conservatorium I am in now (part of the University of Adelaide) and this was their 2nd building (the first was far away and not used anymore). Other than this building are the Schulz, Hartley and Madley buildings.

Rundle Mall is like Pitt Street Mall, only way bigger, but that's coz it's the only big shopping place in Adelaide; while Sydney has like George St., Oxford St., Eastgardens, Chatswood Mall, Bondi Junction, etc.

So far I have been enjoying Adelaide greatly and everything is so cheap. I have a master bed room with a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom which cost only AUD110 per week (compared with a share room with no bathroom for AUD180 pw in Sydney).

The City has been great, free buses and trams within the city and the bus tickets are so cheap! Unlike in Sydney which is so expensive. On top of these, to make things better, South Australian Government allows every Tertiary Student Card Holders to buy concession tickets on buses, so I pay like half only =P

Let me see... A peak-hour multitrip ticket (10 charges) cost me AUD13.50 (AUD1.35 per charge) while off-peak hour multitrip ticket cost me AUD7.30 (AUD0.73 per charge) only. And plus one charge can be used for unlimited times within 2 hours.

A day trip ticket, for concession of course, cost AUD3.80 for me. Ho ho, that can be used for the whole day. Sweet right? Unlike all of you pitiful people in Melbourne and Sydney who pay so much for transport! Muhahahaha

Oh well, I'm going to the city again tomorrow, I haven't finished exploring.

Internet...

The new place didn't have an internet, but then after a while of trying to configure the internet and a long while of getting, "please hold the line" from the ISP, we finally get an internet and atm, I am writing with home internet in the kitchen, erm because there isn't wireless modem...

Anyway, I went to Adelaide Uni yesterday and did the welcome briefing stuff. It seems like I am a magnet to Hongky because the first person I made friend with is a Hongky -_- Oh well, and then I met Stephen Whittington and he kindly took me around the Music Faculty in Adelaide Uni, and maaaan, it's reaaaaly huge! It doesn't have a single building + location like the Con in Sydney but this place is the place to be!

Schulz building from 4 - 11th floor is occupied by the music department, and that 11-floor building is basically monopolised by the School of Music. Then the buildings around it are actually mainly used by the School of Music too. And there is the Elder Hall which was built 1900 in a Revival Gothic style. They are all awesome!

Oh, something Felix might like very much, the technology department in the School of Music has two computer labs, both filled with at least 15 MacPros each! One of the rooms uses normal computer's monitors but the other uses these nice Mac monitors! Felix, if you were there, you would be "lau nua"-ing.

Anyway so I enrolled and the subjects I enrolled in for the first semester are as follows:

• Introduction to Theory and Analysis
• Music Technology I Part 1

This is going to be really exciting, although I have to attend class everyday, thanks to Music Technology! T_T 1 Class on Tuesday due to Mus. Tech. And Introduction to Theory and Analysis Tutorial on Friday! 1 Hour classes on both Tuesday and Friday, how crap!

Well, let's see how things go. I'm going to the city to get a wireless modem now. Till then.

Oh oh oh, The Music faculty in Adelaide Uni is reeeeealy huge and the technology department has like these two rooms full of MacPros!!!! They have like at least 30 of those!!!!

Adelaide

Flight was great and I got to Adelaide on time. The first impression I had was, "All the grass is brown... -_-"

Anyway, I might be moving in to a house tomorrow. Tonight, I'm staying at the Royal Adelaide Hospital's Residential Wing. The place, however, is not as fancy as the name sounds.

Weather is great. It's pretty chilly today and I just remembered I lost my jacket... I think I left it at 92 Gale Road or something. So I have to buy new ones tomorrow or later.

Tomorrow morning is the enrollment. I'll go to the welcome briefing, etc. And then I will get enrolled I think. After that, I'll go to my new place (hopefully, coz this RAH place I am at atm is UGH).

Nothing much happened after that, I just went out, walked at Randle Mall (it's like Pitt Street Mall, but way bigger) and then ate at Hungry Jacks and here I am in the State Library to get online.

Last Day on Hillsong United Choir

Was the last time in choir in Sydney before I had to go to Adelaide (on Wednesday). It was amazing as usual but the number of the people in the choir has swollen up into a good number! =D I'll prolly go to Paradise Church in Adelaide.

Finally, after a boring but eventful month in Medan, I am flying back to Sydney tomorrow! Well through Singapore and all.

I'm meeting James and Ing2 tomorrow in Singapore, since I have a few hours of transit time. And perhaps Eliza will come and meet me too (hopefully xD). I hope I will be updating youtube vidoes tomorrow. Haha

Finally

I finally am able to log into my blogspot account again. Well, not that I couldn't. Well I couldn't but I couldn't be bothered to try out every single emails I have too. Bad thing having heaps of useless crappy emails! ARGH

Anyway, I'm back in Indonesia but will be back in Aussie soon! This Saturday! And I miss the windy Aussie! Despite the fact that it is extremely hot there.

So, Chinese New Year was average. There are, however, a few cool stuff. Medan's got a fireworks display xD Well it was a private one anyway. It was put up from the highest accessible building in Medan (at the time of the writing), the 17-storey Sun Yat Sen Building owned by my dad's friend (hence, the elevators, aircons and water heaters are supplied by my dad's company).

It was quite big for Medan! Well, they actually bought heaps of fireworks from the fireworks stores in Kampung Keling xD The whole thing costed them Rp10,000,000.... Heaps of zeros, that's the problem with Indonesian's currency.

Anyway, I got my maparam ocarina and been playing heaps. Joined a forum too it was cool. Heaps of things to be done.

Alright, so a few days ago, my dad's friend contacted him (Korean) and said that he is coming to Medan. So when he came, my dad is supposed to fetch him with a friend. So he asked me to write his name in big huge letters so he knows where to go to when he reached Medan (my dad and him just met once during a conference in Thailand, so they prolly forgot). Seeing as he is a Korean, I wrote his name in Korean and English too. He was pretty surprised to see his name in Korean when he arrived in Indonesia. Haha.

Oh btw, I'm going back to Sydney on the 16th February, arriving there on the 17th February. And then I'm off to Adelaide on the 20th February. It's pretty exciting!
