Tribute

Hmm, well, I've got a recording done two weeks ago of "Tribute" which
I wrote instead of revising for my Approaches to Music (Musicology)
exam.

Brr...

It's been rather cold! It was 5 Celsius last night, but the weather
widget thing said that it feels like 2 Celsius. It's 7 Celsius now but
it says that it feels like 4 Celsius...

I was asked to write a piece for the Elder Chamber Orchestra! It's
kinda nerve wrecking... scary. Graeme asked me to do it and of course,
I accepted it. Well, the specs is that it's got to include the String
Quartet as the solo and the Chamber Orchestra too. They are playing
another piece of similar format for that concert, William Walton's
Sonata for Strings (which apparently is an awesome piece for the
chamber orchestra). Makes me even more worried now xD I think I just
got to write my best and differently (well, obviously).

Haha, eep. I gotta go to the uni to rehearse (so early in the morning)
with Sam and Matt for the Handel Recorder sonata. And then play for
Blake's exam. So, I'll be off now.

Quick Update 12 May 2009

Nothing much to say today. The day went on as usual. Haven't done much composition in the past few days, so that mightn't be so good.

I sent the Ave Maria to Emma. We're hoping to rehearse it with the choir on Friday, a run through to see how it sounds like. I should email her telling her not to print it just yet because I've made a few changes since I last sent her the copy.

Other than that, I should start on Reinhard's piece and string quartet!

Hmm, time to sleep.

Compositional Activities

Well, that worked, yay! I don't need to log into my account anymore to post! That's heaps better! :D

Anyway, I've finished Ave Maria for SSAA choir. Hmm, it's a bit boring though. Especially the fact that I picked a text that has been recomposed a thousand million times. Well, that will have to do. My other plan was way too big for me to use. The time limit is max 4-5mins... And even this one slightly go over that. Oh well.

I have also sent the scores of Variations on a Theme by Paganini for Fagott and Piano to Matt and Sarah (finally!). I think they are really worried atm because I haven't sent Sarah the final piano score yet...

Now, I have to work on my Cello + Piano melody thing, keeping in mind to orchestrate it for my assignment later on. At the moment, it's still really crude.

As for Reinhard's piece.... Hmm, I will have to start thinking of that! The Two Piano pieces are done, but it's not titled yet! Someone help!

Anyway... I'm going to the city to post some stuffs and print off my assignments.

I'm not sure this will work, but let's see if attaching images work on this! :D w00t!
This is St. Xavier Catholic Church in Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga.

Testing

I'm testing to see if I can use my email to post updates =D

*fingers crossed*

Easter Break

So, it's easter break. So it seems... but it doesn't feel at all like it. So much to do, I have to finish the assignments by Tomorrow/Monday! Or I'll be dead! I am nearly done with the transcription one but have yet started my Viola piece. So that will be a mess :)

Apart from that, I've been taking a lot of photos recently. Check them out at my deviantArt account.

I'm tired, I should go to bed. Sorry for the short update =P

Tragedy

Right, so now there was a "murder" in Medan, two young teenagers died in the fire that was allegedly started on purpose by the now missing maid of the house. The two children are only 15 and 14 years old: Natassa and Melvin. It's rather disturbing how young they are... Even more so because the girl is one of my sister's friends and the boy is my cousin, Tom's close friend.

I've made a video tribute for them. I hope this can amplify how happy they were, and that their death is noticed and cared by people.

Anyway, I should sleep...

Seal Lullaby - Kipling

Oh! hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us,
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, o’er the combers, looks downward to find us
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.
Where billow meets billow, there soft be thy pillow;
Ah, weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee,
Asleep in the arms of the slow-swinging seas.

Bye Penang...

Well, my trip in Penang is coming to an end :( I have had awesome times coming back to Penang after 2 years of not being back here. I couldn't come back last year because of the chaos with applications and my dad told me not to go back to Penang anymore (due to the amount of money I have "wasted").

Ever since I got back to Penang with Cyrus and Ricky, a lot had happeend! The wedding where Ricky and Stephanie was conscripted to the ensemble, meeting with a few old teachers, followed Helen to the food review and enjoy free food, etc. I have enjoyed myself a lot! Thanks especially to Miss Leong (and Teri) who lets me stay in the guest room of her house.

I've met people I haven't met in ages like Miss Leong, Mrs. Terry, Ms. Tan, Ms. Dass, Ms. Mathave, Carol, Katsu, Stephanie (Mum!), Faiz, Joey, Felix, Namrata, Konstantin, Gilbert, Andrea, Panit, Helen, Peter, Lucy, Matron Juliana, Nurse Sarah, Film, Tong, Mrs. Marshall, Imran, etc. Also met people I haven't met before like, Nicola, Jeffers, etc. (Forgive me if I leave anybody out!).

And yeah, I am going back to Indonesia this Saturday! As much as I can't wait to go back to Indonesia, I am rather sad to leave Penang! The next time I will be back here will be in a few years time! So yeah, until then Penang!

My flight will be at 10:20AM. On a Firefly flight! I am kinda excited to get on a turboprop planes again. Haven't been on those in ages! Last time it was fokker F50, and this time it will be ATR72, way more modern. But it would be awesome! :D

Well, that's it I guess.

10 Dec 2008 - 8 Jan 2009

I have finally stopped being a tourist (following Cyrus' leaving from Malaysia). From my first arrival at Sydney till Monday a few days ago, I had travelled for quite some time.

Adelaide
My holiday really started from Sydney. I was way too busy in Adelaide to feel like having a holiday. Had to do Church Carols stuff, accompanying some people doing their auditions and exams. I even had to "sight read" Alex's audition stuff, as he asked me in the last few hours before his audition, because he forgot about it!

Then I left Adelaide for Sydney on the 10th December.

Sydney
Sydney was awesome. I was fetched by Dickson from the airport (thanks, Dickson!). Then I stayed at his house for nearly the whole time (apart from the 2 nights I stayed at the Blue Mountains). I first started cooking for the two of us, but in the end Dickson's mum came and she cooked instead. It was really awesome, as she is such a nice person! She practically mum-ed me! Cooked for me, washed my clothes, ironed my clothes, tidy up after me, etc. I kinda feel bad as the only thing I do is wash the dishes after each meals.

I did quite a few stuffs, like meeting Andreas (who has got a really long and awesome hair now), met up with Emily and Bernie, went to the beach, and did a whole lot of other things. And then Selina invited me over to her place at the Blue Mountains. It was great, I took a lot of photos, which are in my Facebook now. The party and everything was great there. So my Chrissie was spiffy.

Thanks to everyone who made my stay in Sydney really awesome! Especially to Dickson and his mum!

Flight to Kuala Lumpur was rather sad. It started off with me missing my Sydney-Melbourne flight because I thought the departure time was at 6:40pm when it really was at 6:10pm. It was stupid. When I finally got on the flight to KL from Melbourne, I was really tired and all. But when I woke up halfway through the journey, I thought my legs and bum were missing because I couldn't feel them due to numbness.

Kuala Lumpur/Kota Kinabalu
When I arrived at KL, it was really early and I was rather sleepy. I then waited for 2-3 hours from the time my flight was supposed to fly before my flight finally flew due to maintenance problems and thus, delay.

Met a Hongky girl who was going to Kota Kinabalu to climb Mount Kinabalu. I ended up sharing a cab, helping her getting a mobile phone card and finding her accommodation place. Something rather interesting happened when I checked into the hotel. The receptionist smiled at me too many times, and apparently I looked inviting and she gave me her phone number, which, of course, I threw away. I was rather annoyed really.

Met my parents and the rest of the extended family (they were stopping over for Shen Zhen). Then I tried to buy some sorta clothing for the wedding, but we failed. I ended up really sleepy due to the long flights and the lack of sleep.

Day 2 of KK was filled with awesomeness. I met up with Cyrus again, after 6 months or so! I saw Piao, Ricky, Miin, Margaret, Michelle, Reuben, Alison, Joe, Allen, Viv, etc. etc. too. So that was really awesome too. Chat a lot with Cyrus while eating and then went to buy some clothes for the thing at Padini's I think. At night was the rehearsals. After that, Joey took us for some Bak Kut Teh, which was awesome! Thanks Joey for taking us everywhere, especially the next day (which ended up rather a disaster due to bad traffic!).

Day 3 was cool. Played for Allen and Alison's wedding. It was great! Thanks to them for letting me play and I'm sure they will have a great marriage ahead! The reception was crazy! It all ended in the best exercise I performed in 2008! Joget and all with everyone who stayed after it. Alison's mum was super sanguine and she was dancing all over the place! That was really fun.

One of the awesomest thing is that Cyrus taught me how to tie a tie. Now I can tie a tie! Hoorah! Another funny thing was that I woke up one morning finding Ricky outside, sleeping on the sofa. Apparently our room was too hot, and erm, Ricky was kicked by me.

Kuala Lumpur
Woke up in KK, then flew to KL. Flight was delayed just for 10-20 minutes. Flight was smooth, the bus ride to KL Sentral was smooth too, except for a short traffic jam at the end, to which I decided not to take any of the bus. I hate the bus anyway.

Went to KLCC after checking in, and it was crazy! I met Steven Cheam, in front of the Dewan Filharmonic Petronas. He was getting back from work. So we all hung out. Met some of his friends too.

New years eve was pretty okay. We had one of the best views from the hotel of KLCC/Petronas Twin Towers where all the fireworks were, but we had forgotten about it and watched it at the randomest place! So it was rather ordinary.

The first day of 2009 was rather uneventful too. Did this and did that. Met up with Phei Xuen and it was cool. We clicked and talked and acted as if we had known each other for 100 years. Ate at a Japanese's, which was rather dumb, but I was hungry and couldn't think!

At night, we went to eat at the KFC's, another dumb thing to do because the KFC we went to was ridiculously sucky compared to the rest of Malaysia's. Internet cafe after that was refreshing! :D

The next day was the flight to Penang. Nearly missed the flight. Thank God the Indian taxi driver offered to take us straight to the airport, which costed us RM70, quite reasonable. Cyrus left his boarding pass somewhere, I think he actually dropped it. And for a while we were worried shitless. And then a lady returned the boarding pass to him. Flight was just a bit delayed and before we knew it we were in...

Penang
Went to Gurney Plaza first to wait for Miss Leong and then took the cab to Miss Leong's. Practiced for the wedding Miss Leong and I were supposed to play in and we dragged Ricky and made him play the violin for us. "I used to play the violin," made him the violinist, that's Miss Leong who is expert in delegating! Cyrus was made to play the egg shaker as he doesnt play any instruments. Stephanie got tagged along to, thanks to me! At night was hawkers food at Northam Cafe! Cyrus was running around the place like a little kid in a toy shop. Ricky looked indifferent, but was surely quite happy to be there.

The wedding on the next day was cool, played quite nicely. The morning was filled with great food! Ate this and that, we went Hawkers hopping with Christine (she was driving). Just before the wedding was madness trying to find some quick laundry place, of course we didn't find it, so we ended up just ironing our smelly clothes (from Alison's wedding). But Cyrus actually bought a new shirt, which looked rather nice, I tried one on and it made me look really fat. I then decided to just wear my old and smelly one, oops. And after the wedding, we went to Subaidah's for some Mamak food, which was rather pleasant. We took photos and videos of the foodmaking there.

Ricky left the next day :( and he didnt get to eat Laksa! That was quite a shame. Miss Leong actually took us to Penang road for some Laksa then! That was rather sad, because we were taken there once Ricky left. Ricky was screaming out and calling out for Laksa throughout Penang and we didn't even take him there! We should have let Cyrus bring some frozen Laksa for him! Besides Laksa, we had some Chendul too. I forgot what we did after that. But at night, the food was, something too... I forgot. I think it was Passion of Kerala with Felix. Passion of Kerala was totally changed!

The last full day before Cyrus left was rather eventful. We went to Penang road again, to find food for Cyrus to bring back home. He got a lot of stuffs like dodol, instant Bak Kut Teh stuff, coconut sweets, etc. He also bought a lot of DVDs from Batu Ferringhi. At the arvo, we went to the beach in front of Miss Leong's and was going to do the parasailing thing, but didn't end up going because we both fly planes/gliders and parasailing wont be half as exciting as what we did anyway. Dinner at night was at Sunset Bistro with Steph and Christine too.

We didn't sleep at night because we were busy talking. Our talk was rather normal in the beginning and went a bit emo a bit later, as usual, happened before with me and Tom just before my Gr8 Piano exam! I stayed up till 6am then! But this time it was 5am, he then went to brush his teeth. Turns out that Miss Leong had been up for the whole night because she was worried that Cyrus couldnt wake up! I ended up falling asleep so didn't end up saying goodbye to Cyrus! Oh well.

Stayed home bullying Teri the whole day and using the internet that day. Went to Felix's, met Joey, Namie, Andrea, Nicola and Konstantin after our dinner at the Northam Cafe again. They drank a lot, while playing some sort of drinking game, which was rather lame. I, on the other hand, was such a good boy. I just drank Coke throughout the game :p

Slept then woke up today! Met Helen, Tom's mum, where she took me to the Corner Club to do some food review. Of course I was just tagging along for the great food! It was really great to eat so much food for free. I really liked some of the food, especially the Almond milk stuff they had. Worth checking out! Oh, I saw Mr. Web and Eric with Miss Leong at the Coffee Bean at Island Plaza. Mr. Web is working in Jordan now. And then we went back, Stephanie came too. Oh, I drove for the third time after like nearly a year! And the first time I drove, Cyrus said that I acted very calm. Of course I did! And Miss Leong said that I passed her driving test! :D

I took Stephanie to the hawkers, but I didn't know that Golden Beach or something like that closed down! So I took a turn, but upon taking it, I saw the road to the Uplands Boarding House. So I went there and met with Matron Juliana, Nurse Sarah, Film, Tong and Gilbert. Gilbert tagged along to the hawkers. I saw Mr. Newton there, and he looked great. It was awesome seeing old Uplanders!

This was what happened so far. It was really awesome, It felt like so much had happened in the last 2 weeks and I was really glad to meet up with a lot of friends I haven't met up with before especially Cyrus and Miss Leong and Stephanie. And today, Gilbert! More holiday awesomeness is going to happen!

Anyway, so yeah. I bought some season 5 House DVDs and been watching it. On the 3rd DVD out of 3 DVDs now. Gonna finish it soon!

KL

In KL now. The wedding in KK was pretty awesome and it ended in a really bizzare form of "exercise" for everyone who "danced" in it.

Anyway, I'm in KL now and it's pretty crowded here. Our New Year's eve was rather pathetic but special afterall.

Will post more updates soon.

Humidity

It's so bloody humid in here. I don't like it! I feel like I'm swimming when I walk outside. I wanna stay in the aircon room all the time! lol

Anyway, gonna meet up with Cyrus, Piao, Ricky and Reuben soon. Just checking emails n stuff for a while.

Oh, something weird happened yesterday, will explain later on.

Btw, check out this poem: Stolen Child, by W. B. Yeats. Whitacre wrote the music for it and it's so beautiful! The best parts are the refrains:

Come away, O human child, to the waters and the wild, with a faery hand in hand, for the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

How pretty. And Yeats was only 20 ish when he wrote that!

KLIA - LCCT

I'm in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) now, only, I'm actualyl in the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). It's so HUMID in Malaysia. I thought Sydney was humid already, bt when I got off the plane, it was like a blast of humidity being boomed unto my face.

The flight took 9 hours, and it was like hell. My bum was numb when I woke up. It was extremely uncomfortable. Thanks to my dad who made me do this. Oh well, at least I'm here now.

Well, in an internet lounge now. Computer and everything is so good, heaps better than Sydney's or especially Melbourne's. But internet is crappy as hell. So slow, and I can't even connect to MSN?

Anyway, I'm going for my third round of flight now! KL - BKI. Today, I go to two places I haven't been before: Melbourne and later Kota Kinabalu. Should be rather exciting, despite all the humidity and all.

Till later! Flight boarding in 20 minutes.

Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport... A.K.A. the Central Market. Seriously... It's like so messed up here. I feel like I'm in a Mall + Foodcourt rather than an Airport. Right beside the check in counters are the food courts... lol... Meh I don't like it. And I broke my Mackers fast and ended up getting the worst Mackers I have had in my whole life... -.- no joke!

Anyway, I'm using this crappy internet booth thingy. Heck, Sydney's heaps better and Adelaide's the best (free internet stations).

I can proudly say that I like Adelaide Airport!

Anyway, flight is at 0145. Well that's 1:45AM... lmao, well, it's 11:11pm now, and I quite thank god I missed my other flight XD Less waiting time in this bloody airport.

Anyway, only like 13 mins left. So I'd better log out.

Sydney Airport Madness

Well well, it seems like everything went wrong today. Got out of Dickson's house, then got on the train to Wolli Creek, but had to stop at Hurstville to take the train back to Penshurst because I forgot to pack in my Laptop's Battery adapter.

Then when I arrived at Penshurst, it rained cats and dogs! Like seriously, my umbrella was useless and I was saturated! Well not quite, but close enough. Then I got back to the stop and everything went okay till the airport.

Arrived at the airport, the queue was SHOCKING. It was like the longest queue ever, but then again, that's also an exaggeration. There were heaps of counters but only 2 were used. In the end "my flight" got called so I went to the counter to check in the closing flight thing. But then, my flight wasn't at 7! It was at 6:15. Naturally, I was too late (hoorah) so I had to pay AUD50 to get in a later flight DJ882, at 7:15.

It's 7:20pm now and I think the plane hasn't yet landed. Bloody hell, this is taking some time. The weather isn't really helping at all! And now it's delayed till like 7:45?

Oh well, not my day. Thank God the Air asia flight I was supposed to be on is departing at 1:45am... So I should be okay!

Back to Malaysia

I'm going back to Malaysia soon! My flight to Melbourne is at 6:40pm (3:20pm now, going in around half n hour ish and I HAVEN'T YET PACKED!).

Anyway, after that, I'm catching a connecting flight at 0145... Very early indeed. I should arrive at Kuala Lumpur at 0655... Ugh, gotta be some tiring night!

So, I hope this Air Asia seats flights aren't too narrow. I've prepared a book to read (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) which I can't wait to read. And some music to listen to and well if all things fails, my laptop. I might be able to use it for an hour or so before my battery went flat. If that still isn't adequate, sleep is on the way.

My Christmas was spiffy! Went to the Blue Mountains and well as you can see, I took a few pics with my newly bought crappy camera (bought just to take pics of my holiday lol). Selina and her family (-ies) were very nice and friendly.

Well, I'd better get ready.

Till later.

To Sydney

I'm going to Sydney now. Well, right now, looking at the plane outside my gate. Oh wow, singapore Airlines cargo 747 just landed, it's huuge, but A380 is larger =P

Anyway, it's actually boarding time already, people are being Aussie, walking really slowly towards the plane etc. I'm even worse, still writing this blog.

Well, I'll get back with other stuffs later on!

Can't wait to be back in Sydney! 10 Dec 2008 - 27 Dec 2008!

More Portfolio-ness

Nothing much happened today except for the fact that I printed another draft for my portfolio! This time it's 160pages-ish... I put in all my works, including the smaller crappier ones... Not sure if that is a good idea, but I'm going to meet up with Stephen and ask for his opinion.

Just watched Butterfly Effect (2004), quite a creepy movie. Great ending, I love it (creepier than BE2 because of how he killed himself in the end).

It seems like I have much to say, but I haven't got anything to say. It's like I haven't got anything to say, but I do have much to say.

So I'm going to stop now.

Monday, 10 November 2008

Portfoli-O

I've printed off 2 copies of my Composition Seminar Portfolio (which I labeled workshop folio, since I didn't know which is which) and I also printed off a draft copy of my Major Composition Portfolio (which took 80 pages-ish). I'm going to have to carefully read it and check for mistakes and all. So far, I've found heaps of mistakes in the "Introduction" page. More mistakes are yet to come.

Borrowed a few scores off Carl today! Pärt's Miserere and Passio, Crossin's Caritas and a conductor's score of Beethoven's 5th Symphony with the annotations and conducting notes. I'm going to have fun with it.

I've decided to just fail my Music Technology, not only I'm not interested in it, but also, it's taking too much time off me and I'm too lazy to do that. Sorry, dad and mum... :( I can't do it! I actually feel so relieved after deciding this.

Anyhow. Gotta get back to my composition and history essay!
